Patrick County Master Gardeners donated $700 to the Patrick County Developmental Center in Stuart.

The funds were ½ the proceeds from the group’s annual plant sale in April. Each year, the Master Gardeners choose a worthy local cause to donate the plant sale profits and this year selected the Developmental Center, a day support program serving adults with unique abilities. The center provides services that include work alternatives, learning activities, community activities relationship/socialization activities and health/safety.  The center, which currently serves 13 individuals, is directed by Penny Belcher with Pam Hubbard, Betty Jett and Linda Edwards as direct support professionals, and Sherman Hubbard, who provides transportation.

The PCDC was started by Frances Simmons in 1979 and has been operating in Patrick County since.

The PCDC plans to use the donation for projects that have been put on hold due to lack of funding.

The Master Gardeners are very happy to assist the center in their important work.

Anyone interested in becoming a Master Gardener can find out about upcoming training this fall by emailing Sherry Easterbrook at sbe.slohiker@gmail.com
