The Meadows of Dan Community Association invites everyone to the 12th annual Meadows of Dan Folk Fair, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20.
As in previous years, the fair will spread from “uptown Meadows of Dan” to the Meadows of Dan Community Center, according to a news release from the association.
A large crowd is expected, and there will be plenty of entertainment. Performers this year will include Jim Lord, the Country Boys, Two Young Two Old, and Southern Remedy.
A play, “Five Favorite Fairy Tales,” will be presented by Once Upon a Blue Ridge, a professional theatre company based in Meadows of Dan. Adapted and directed by Peter and Christina Holland, “Five Faves” includes the stories of Three Little Pigs, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Bean Tree, Snow White, and a pirate scene from Peter Pan.
All of the stories have audience participation, music, and the Hollands’ style of humor for all ages. Assisting the Hollands in the play is a talented company of young performers from Patrick County and Stokes County, N.C.
Bruce Burgess, a professional banjo player from Danbury, N.C., plays in the OUBR Band which accompanies “Five Faves.”
All kinds of food will be available, including a fish fry by Meadows of Dan Elementary School, hot dogs from Vesta Community Club, peach cobbler made by Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, Kettlecorn, deep-fried Oreos, fresh lemonade, pork skins, and homemade ice cream.
To increase the fun for everyone, the fair will feature Outdoor Entertainment with inflatables.
Arts and crafts for display and purchase will include Crooked Road Hardwoods, hand towels, wooden bowls, Simply Stones, Scentsy, essential oils, gourd crafts, handcrafted birdhouses, hand-cut glass, and more.
Local authors including Tom Perry, Connie Wolhford, and Sandra Warren will be at the fair.
Shuttle service will be provided by Laurel Meadows Rehabilitation center from uptown to the community center.
The Meadows of Dan Folk Fair is free to the public.
Anyone with questions is asked to call Trinity Goad at 540-230-7943.
