Ms. Melva Spencer Ellis, age 79 of Stuart, Virginia, transitioned from Earth to Glory on May 30, 2025. She was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ with membership at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Her adult life of service was dedicated to helping others through various roles in healthcare, including herself being a distinguished certified nursing assistant. She doted on married life in Columbus, Ohio.

Melva was born in Patrick County, Virginia on March 23, 1946, to the late Daniel Richard Spencer, Sr. and Pheobe Dobbins Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only child, Daryl Timothy “Tim” Spencer; and three brothers, John Wayne Spencer, Bobby Lee Spencer, and James Richard Spencer (infant). Melva was pampered by her father and favorite uncle, George Callahan Spencer and continued to be cherished throughout her life by her family, friends, and associates.

Left to cherish the memory of Melva Spencer Ellis are one grandson, Trayvone R. Nowlin of Wytheville, VA; one great-grandson, Julian C. Nowlin; five siblings, Joseph E. Spencer and wife, Patty of Fort Washington, MD, Daniel Richard Spencer, Jr. of Ridgeway, VA, Ronald “Ron” H. Spencer and wife, Stephanie, Richmond, VA, Verna S. Smith of Richmond, VA, and Karen M. Spencer of Stuart, VA; sister-in-law, Angela Faye Spencer of Ridgeway, VA; special friend, Stephanie Dillard; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Melva’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection family in Stuart for their exceptional care and support of Melva for the past seven years.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, cards, etc., memorial donations may be made to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 606, Patrick Springs, VA 24133. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted with the services and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
