Fall semester classes start in less than a month for Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) students. In the few weeks before the semester begins, the college’s advisors are adding more and more ways to help students get ready for the coming semester.

Recently, the college launched a face-to-face advising campaign, with a myriad of safety precautions that enabled students to meet with their advisors in person.

The campaign was a tremendous success, enabling more than 100 students to register. The approach also attracted the attention of community college leaders across the Commonwealth, who requested training from PHCC to implement the approach on their respective campuses.

Following this success, PHCC will expand its advising opportunities and targeting specific student groups.

Students in Patrick County will have their own in-person advising day at PHCC’s site in Stuart.

Patrick County in-person advising will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

In-person advising opportunities for Dual Enrollment students are offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following days/dates:

Thursday, Aug. 6 – ACE and Governor’s School

Monday, Aug. 10 – Martinsville High School Dual Enrollment

Tuesday, Aug. 11- Bassett High School Dual Enrollment

Wednesday, Aug. 12- Magna Vista High School Dual Enrollment

Thursday, Aug. 13 – Any Dual Enrollment student

General advising for all new and returning students:

Week One — Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;

Week Two — Monday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Thursday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;

Week Three – Monday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Except for the Patrick County advising day, all in-person advising will take place in PHCC’s Stone Hall Gym.

Please note, advisees must make an appointment. To reduce wait times, limit the number of people in the building, and mitigate risks, walks-in are discouraged.

To make an appointment, simply go to www.patrickhenry.edu/register.

New students should apply to the college before scheduling an appointment. The application for admissions can be found at www.patrickhenry.edu/admissions.

For those who do not wish to make an in-person appointment, the college will provide virtual advising opportunities as well. To set up a virtual appointment, students may call (276) 656-5482 or email advising@patrickhenry.edu.

Starting on Aug. 8, students will need to pay for their classes or have Financial Aid in place on the day they enroll. Financial Aid counsellors will be available during in-person advising days.

This fall, PHCC will offer a variety of classes online and in-person. Safety measures will be deployed across campus to ensure that in-person classes are offered in the safest manner possible.
