In our area we were very thankful for every drop of rain we got. It had been days since we had any kind of rain. Things perked up after the showers.
The Jesus House Clothing Ministry got a real blessing on Friday, when my neighbors delivered a lot of brand new shoes from his workplace. Special thanks to my caring neighbor, Brian Ratliff for this blessing.
I have enjoyed all the fresh veggies folks have given me. Thanks to William Roberts for those purple tomatoes. I like them to also.
I enjoyed Sunday lunch at Gloria and Charles Biggs’ home and as usual there were so many kinds of food that you couldn’t sample everything .The cakes are always so pretty.
July was a busy month at the Food Bank at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church—899 people signed in and counting the household we helped 2,709 people. We have been blessed with a lot of food.
I stopped by to see my cousin Josie Spence and she gave me some apples off her tree in the yard. They made some delicious applesauce. Her fig tree has a good crop of figs this year.
Blueberry Hill still had blueberries when I went out to pick on August 8. I love going out there and surely have enjoyed the blueberries.
I enjoyed going to Leonard and Arlene Trent’s home. They are so welcoming. The other day, Arlene gave me some more of that good zucchini bread she makes. She had extra zucchini and she make good use of it.
It seems a lot of folks are battling allergies these days. :Miss Claudine” Wood says she has had a bad time with them. But she always is her cheerful self when I talk to her, doing good to be 97 years old. She is an amazing woman.
Dorothy Vipperman gave me some fresh country eggs. Thank you. It’s always a pleasure to talk with her.
I surely hope my neighbor who lives in back of me found her calico cat. It was missing and she was most concerned.
The men’s ministry cooked breakfast for the Wednesday night meal. It was delicious. I always like breakfast foods anytime.
I enjoyed talking to Steve Eanes and stories of his drive down Belcher Mountain. That’s a road I have surely traveled in my young days.
Something to think about: always think before you speak. When it comes to controlling our speech, it’s a life-long work.
Burger booster hint: sun dried tomato mayonnaise: stir together 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 2 Tbsp. sun dried tomato paste until well blended.
OVERNIGHT SALAD
(From the Amish cookbook, Plain and Healthy Living)
1 medium head lettuce, shredded
1 medium head cauliflower, sliced
1 (16 oz.) package of peas
1 pt. salad dressing
1 pkg Good Seasons Italian dressing mix
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Bacon bits
Use a 3-qt. or larger bowl. Put lettuce, cauliflower and peas in a layer in bowl. Mix salad dressing with Good Seasons Italian dressing mix. Put on top of vegetables. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and bacon bits. Put in refrigerator overnight. Toss before serving.
