Mr. Charles Robert Handy

Mr. Charles Robert Handy, age 59 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Patrick County on May 12, 1961. Mr. Handy was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Gilmer Handy; his grandparents, Otis and Gertie Lawless, Alonza and Crystal Handy; and a nephew, Justin Daniel Spangler; Uncles, Hassell, Denver Handy, Junior Lawless; Aunt, Elsie Hodges, Ruth and Mary Cassady. He worked at Bassett Furniture, and served in the United States Navy where he received honors for protecting his ship, the USS Nassau, while on duty.

Mr. Handy is survived by his mother, Betty Lawless Handy of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Joey Spangler of Stuart; nieces and nephews, Jordan and Mary Spangler, Kirsten Spangler, Pandy and Lee Anderson; great niece and nephew, Mia and Korben Spangler, Jacob and Andrew Payne; aunts and uncles, Donice Vaughn, Mary Young, Betty Biggs, Garland, Leon and Billy Handy, Sammy Lawless, Shelby Fain, Margaret Howerton and close friend, Thelma.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mayo Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor J.R. Shelton and Steve Rorrer officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Friends can pay their last respects on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
