Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Leroy Birkett

Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Leroy Birkett, age 94 of Fort Washington, MD, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. He was born in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 1927, to the late Arnold Lloyd Birkett and Ruth Neale Birkett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Aaron Birkett; one sister, Eleanor Knight; and two brothers, William and David Birkett. Ernie had served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II and had been a building contractor for many years.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 72 years, Alieze Weaver Birkett of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Steven and Lorraine Birkett of Accokeek, MD, Erick Leroy and Deborah Birkett of Keswick, VA, Gary Alan and Terri Birkett of Stuart, Kevin Wayne and Jolene Birkett of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren, Melissa Ekard, Nathan Birkett, Elizabeth Heitzman, Laura Dillingham, Juliana Birkett, Emily Birkett, Adam Birkett, Christian Birkett, Katherine Birkett, Jared Birkett; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Heffner of Annapolis, MD; one brother, Arnold Birkett of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Erick and Gary Birkett officiating. A flag presentation will be performed by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
