Mr. Hubert J. Rakes, age 73 of Ferrum, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on October 19, 1947 to the late Walter “Goode” Rakes and Laura Lee Hall Rakes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rakes was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Randolph and Richard Rakes; five sisters, Marilyn Rakes, Altrude Shively, Mildred DeHart, Gaye Worley and Judy Hale. He was a loving husband and father.
Mr. Rakes is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Chaney Rakes of the home; a son, Steve Rakes; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Brad Cockram; three brothers, Orben, Cleo and Lane Rakes; two sisters, Edna Duncan and Rena Lou Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Rakes Family Cemetery.
