Mrs. Ethel Mae Rakes Cox

Mrs. Ethel Mae Rakes Cox, age 91 of Claudville, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.  She was born in Dublin on May 2, 1929 to the late George and Alverta McCormick Rakes.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Acie Cox; a daughter, Debra Cox Overby; two brothers, Sidney and Joe Rakes; and two sisters, Bertha Dalton and Elma Owens.  She was a member of Danube Presbyterian Church.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.   As Nanny would always say, “God Bless You.”

Mrs. Cox is survived by two daughters, Katina Cox Puckett (C.W.) of Stuart, Sandy Cox Johnson of Claudville; six grandchildren, Gretchen Lawson (Scott), Amy Reed (Dave), Scott Overby, Kenan Johnson (Kyla), Katona McMillian (Austin) and Kaitlin Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Knight, Holden Reed, Christina Taylor, Andrew Reed, Adian “Nanny’s Boy” Lacy, Kailee Overby, Caden Overby, Kennedy Johnson, Kallie Johnson, Watson McMillian and Amelia McMillian; one brother, Noah Rakes (Barbara) of Locust Grove; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Johnny and Debbie Marion, Joann Ayers and Little Charles Bowman, all of Claudville.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the graveside on Friday afternoon.  Mrs. Cox will lie in state for friends to come by and pay their final respects on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
