Mrs. Virginia Belle Handy Cockram

Mrs. Virginia Belle Handy Cockram, age 82 of Patrick Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. She was born in Patrick County on March 24, 1938 to the late Sam and Elizabeth Boyd Handy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockram was preceded in death by seven brothers, Cecil, Arnold, Ralph, Lee, Troy, Jim, and James E. Handy; and three sisters, Frances Smith, Cassie Mae Cockram and Ruby Handy. Mrs. Cockram had retired from Hanesbrands. She loved crocheting, sewing, and canning. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Mrs. Cockram is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Norman “Hank” Cockram of the home; her children, Hazel Cockram of Raleigh, North Carolina, Peggy Smith and husband, Derick of Stuart, Rebecca Plasters and Ed Williams of Patrick Springs; three grandchildren, Ash and Shane Plasters, Patrick Smith; one sister, Leona Goad of Patrick Springs, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the Cockram Family Cemetery with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cockram Family Cemetery Fund c/o Carl Cockram, 247 Shady Brook Lane, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.
