Nancy Bennett Helms, 62, of Stuart, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at her home.
She was born June 15, 1953 in Lynchburg to the late Hazel Pauline Thompson Bennett and Claude Anderson Bennett.
Nancy enjoyed a career that gave her the opportunity to help others as she worked at R.J. Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Stuart, the Virginia Employment Commission in Martinsville and Stuart, and the Patrick County Treasurer’s Office. She was a member of New Life Community Fellowship Church in Stuart.
Nancy was known for her infectious smile and wonderful laugh. She was truly a beautiful person inside and out. Everyone that knew Nancy commented on the special relationship she and David had. They enjoyed each other’s company and spending time together more than anyone can imagine. She enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, travel, and caring for her pets. Surviving are her husband, John David Helms Jr. of the home; three sisters, Cheryl Bennett, Vivian Mitchell and Dale Moore, all of Lynchburg; one brother, Kim Bennett of Brookneal, several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Laura Bowles of Cleveland, Miss.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church in Patrick Springs with Dr. Marion Poythress and Ethel Churchwell officiating. Burial will be at Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23 at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
