The New College Institute (NCI), Virginia State University (VSU) and the Wendell Scott Foundation continue to collaborate and provide regional 11th and 12th grade students high-quality experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in a summer program dubbed Camp Cultivation. The program will take place June 23-25 at Virginia State University (VSU). Deadline for applications is April 30.
Designed to provide relevant hands-on experiences in agriculture and STEM, Camp Cultivation offers students learning and fun experiences while providing a chance to live on a college campus. All Camp Cultivation costs — including housing, meals, materials, supplies and transportation to and from VSU — are free for accepted students.
Camp Cultivation participants who are interested in continuing in the field of agriculture may continue a Technical Service Provider (TSP) training program to gain hands-on experience in conservation and preservation that will qualify them to serve as paid interns in fields of agriculture and conservation for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Students who have an interest in future careers in STEM and agriculture should contact Steve Keyser at skeyser@newcollegeinstitute.org or (276) 403-5610. Eligible students should be prepared to complete registration forms and must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Additional information is also available from the Foundation’s Yolanda Ross at (434) 533-0097 or campcultivation@wendellscott.org. Participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
