The Patrick County School Board voted unanimously May 12 to hire Amy Nester as the new assistant principal at Stuart Elementary School, beginning July 1.
Nester earned a bachelor of science degree from Radford University in interdisciplinary studies K-12 with concentrations in special education and math; a master’s degree in high incidence disabilities K-12 from Radford University; and a master’s degree in educational leadership K-12 from Radford University.
Nester taught special education at the elementary level for 10 years in Roanoke County public schools before moving to Carroll County.
In 2014, she joined Patrick County public schools as a special education teacher at Stuart Elementary School.
She has completed various professional development experiences including studies in autism spectrum disorders, reading instruction and intervention, as well as participating in the Virginia Aspiring Special Education Leaders cohort during the 2015-2016 school year.
Nester said she believes strongly in the value of education and lifelong learning, and is excited to be a support to Patrick County students and their families.
Nester lives in Carroll County with her husband, Dustin Nester.
