The 17th annual Ken Adams Memorial Patrick County Toy Run, ‘Keeping A Dream Alive,’ will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The ride is open to all types of cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Fairy Stone Volunteer Fire Department, and the ride gets underway at 1 p.m.
There is a $10 entry fee.
Proceeds raised from the event benefit the Patrick County Christmas Cheer Program, according to Cathy Adams.
Her husband, Ken Adams, started the run in 2003. Later that year, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Ken Adams continued to work on the toy runs until his death in May, 2006.
After his death and in his honor, the church family at Ross-Harbour United Methodist Church of Patrick County agreed to call the event the Ken Adams Memorial Toy Run.
Although called a ‘toy run,’ Cathy Adams has said that each child receives an outfit; a warm jacket or a coat – depending on whether a coat is needed – and shoes. Toys are purchased with any remaining funds and also are distributed to youngsters.
In addition to the church and Christmas Cheer program, the run is supported by the Red Knights VA Chapter 11 Motorcycle Club and the Fairy Stone Volunteer Fire Department, which allows use of their building and helps support the ride by helping with the route and traffic control.
The ride also includes a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and hot dogs are available to all riders.
For more information, call Cathy Adams at (276) 930-1530.
