Miss Virginia Volunteer is a new chapter of a nationwide, service-oriented scholarship program that seeks to empower young women through educational scholarships and extraordinary opportunities.

The inaugural at-large beauty pageant will be held this year, August 12-15 at the historic Academy Center of the Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Being an at-large pageant means Miss Virginia Volunteer contestants do not have to win a local competition — anyone in the state can apply. Winners will receive thousands of dollars in scholarship funds towards education.

Miss Virginia Volunteer promises to continue the legacy of traditional pageants and will consist of five categories for judging including interview, talent, evening gown, fitness and wellness, and onstage questions. Each of these categories will allow the contestants to showcase their talents, knowledge and unique personalities.

No previous pageant experience or titles are required to enter to win the crown. The winner of the pageant will go on to represent the state of Virginia at the national pageant, Miss Volunteer America. When serving as Miss Virginia Volunteer, the winner will champion a social cause of her choosing without having to take a year off from her education or career. She will have the opportunity of a lifetime, not only for personal growth, but to build relationships across the state in the field or platform that interests her.

More than a competition, Miss Virginia Volunteer is a community that provides connections, opportunities, and lasting impact for young women in their state. As a family-run pageant, organizers care about each individual contestant’s success and growth, and seek to provide a personal and rewarding experience during the first pageant week. Each of the five points on the Miss Virginia Volunteer crown represents a principle in the organization’s mission, and together the first letter of each spells “SERVE.” By cultivating responsibility, empowerment, volunteerism and excellence in education, Miss Virginia Volunteer enables young women to be able to go out and lead others to do the same.
