The next meeting of the Genealogical Society of Rockingham and Stokes Counties, N.C. will be on Sunday, October 8 at the Madison-Mayodan Library located at 611 Burton Street, Madison, N.C. The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Robert S. Lockett, Jr. will be the featured speaker. He will speak on Genealogy and DNA: The Basics.  The presentation will have two parts: the first defines DNA, using biological terms, charts and pictures. Next, the properties of DNA, such as the Y and X chromosomes, will be examined for their usefulness in determining family relationships.

Lockett will discuss what consumers get for their money when using a commercial DNA testing company and how to use the information to establish family relationships.

Finally, a case study for the Repass family will be used to show how DNA testing in the USA and Switzerland was used to verify a family relationship in which the common ancestor of both lines was in the 1500s.

Bring questions since this is the speaker who will be able to answer them., and invite interested guests.
