KEVIN GRAHAM DAY

Kevin Graham Day, age 43, of Roanoke and formerly of Stuart, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018, at his home. He was born in Roanoke on October 15, 1975, to Robert Joe Day, Jr. and June Graham Day of Patrick Springs. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, the Rev. Robert Joe Day, Sr. and Mary Ellen Stewart Day; his maternal grandfather, Roy Lee Graham; and an infant brother, Christopher Mark Day. He worked for 23 years at Eastman and attended church in Roanoke. He enjoyed reading and playing video games with his son until really late at night. He was the greatest father, son, and brother and loved his family tremendously.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two children, Mark Graham Day of Stuart, Emma Grace Hendricks of Roanoke; his fiancé, Carolyn Hendricks of Roanoke; a step-daughter, Izzy Hendricks of Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Matthew Robert and Michelle Day of Stuart; two nieces, Hannah Day, Haley Day; and his maternal grandmother, Dorris Graham of Patrick Springs.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Revs. Rick Anderson and Michael Day officiating. Burial was in the Adams Family Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.

 

OPAL SHELTON

Opal Shelton, 72, of Stuart, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. She was the daughter of Dorothy Rogers Bateman and Andrew Clay Bateman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee Shelton.

She was a dedicated member of New Haven Baptist Church in Floyd, worked with her husband Richard at R.L Shelton Trucking in Stuart. She was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to serving others and the Lord she loved.

Surviving are her husband; Richard Shelton of the home; one son, Jody Robert Shelton of Stuart; one sister, Susan B. Collins of Claudville; four grandchildren, Jonathan Shelton, Matthew Shelton, Justin Shelton, Brittany Martin; and special friends, Everett and Kathy Nelson.

The funeral was held at Norris Funeral Services Chapel on Saturday, December 22, 2018, with the Reverend James Cockram, the Reverend Ricky Rogers officiating and remarks by Everrett Nelson. Burial was at Patrick Memorial Gardens.

BOBBY RAY SPENCE

Bobby Ray Spence, age 85, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at Sovah Health in Martinsville. He was born in McDowell County, W.Va. on September 4, 1933, to the late Simon Edgar Spence and Gladys Williams Spence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lee Spence; two sisters, Lillian Higgins, Dorothy Spence; and nine brothers, Brewster, Charlie, Claude, Edgar, Hollis, James, Ray, Walter, and Thomas Spence. He had served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Geneva Austin Spence of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Andrew Dalton of Stuart; one son, Charlie Lee Spence of Walnut Cove, N.C.; four grandchildren, Maggie Houchins and husband, Michael, Andrea Dalton and husband, Bryan Gilley, Patrick Dalton, Cristina Daniels; one great grandchild, Lyric Houchins; three sisters, Gracie Sigmon of Bassett, Josie Bowman of Stuart, Virginia Brown of Lexington, N.C.; one brother, Raymond Spence of Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Spence Family Cemetery with Pastor Jackie Spence officiating. Military rites were provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Moody Funeral Services in Stuart handled the arrangements.

DANIEL “DANNY” RAY WALL

Daniel “Danny” Ray Wall, 57, resident of Danbury, N.C., passed away at his home on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

He was born May 7, 1961, in Stokes County, to the late Forrest Ray Wall and Charlotte Brim Wall. He was a well-known member of the Danbury, Lawsonville, and Sandy Ridge, N.C. communities and will be remembered by many for his warm and friendly nature. He was a friend to all and had many wonderful friends and neighbors whom he greatly valued. He was a graduate of North Stokes High School. He attended Oak Ridge Baptist Church of Sandy Ridge, N.C.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by former wife and best friend, Shannon Dellinger; sister, Mary Anne Wall Amos (Danny); nephews, Justin Amos (Misty) of Belmont, N.C. and Tyler Amos (Sara) of Hillsborough, N.C.; great-nieces, Natalie Amos and Samantha Amos; and a great-nephew, Zachary Amos.

A celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home in Sandy Ridge, N.C. Interment was in the Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery located at 2030 Snow Hill Church Road, Danbury, N.C. The Reverend Mike Sands and the Reverend CJ Spicer  officiated the service.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. John Spangler of Winston Salem, N.C. for his medical care throughout the years. Donations may be made to the Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge served the family.
