WILLIAM L. HANDY
William Lee “Bill” Handy, 79, of Stuart, died on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
He was the son of Maude Rakes Handy and Roy Lee Handy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Handy; and a son, William Lee Handy Jr.
He worked at Easthampton Rubber Thread Plant in Stuart, and served his country in the United States Navy.
Surviving are two daughters, Lori Fox of Martinsville and Beverly Crews of Eden, N.C.; one son, David M Handy of Fargo, N.D.; two sisters, Lula Ware Martin of Patrick Springs and Betty Townes of Richmond; one brother, Douglas Wayne Handy of Patrick Springs and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Monday, June 26, at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Pastor Michael Brady officiating with military rites by Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.

TROY L. HATCHER
Troy Lee Hatcher, 45, of Ararat, passed away Sunday June 18, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Surry County, N.C., on February 13, 1972 to Clifton Lee Hatcher and the late Mary Lou Ziglar Hatcher.
Surviving are his father, Clifton Lee Hatcher, one sister, Rochelle Hatcher of Ararat; one niece; one nephew; several aunts and uncles; ; one great-aunt; and special friends Delois Smith, Betty Carter, Mavis Wilds and Penny Simmons and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Ziglar Hatcher; grandparents Herbert and Clarice Hatcher and Calvin Ziglar and Vera Jessup Ziglar; and step-grandmother Dorothy Ceasar Ziglar; an aunt, Mae Belle Kinzer, and three uncles, Ambus Hatcher, Freddie Ziglar and Richard Ziglar.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 24, at Triumphant Pentecostal Church in Mount Airy by Dr. Tony O. Carter, eulogist. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery, Westfield, NC.

FRANCES S. MABE
Frances Yvonne Smith Mabe, age 74, of Ararat, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home.
She was born in Patrick County on February 11, 1943 to Joe and Effie Hawks Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Mabe; a son, Charles Mabe; a sister, Martha Wright; and brothers, William Smith, Claude Smith, and Buford Smith.
Among those who will always cherish her memory are a daughter, Tammy Mabe; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Teresa Mabe; grandchildren, Cody Sawyers, Gwendolyn Sawyers and Marissa Mabe; a sister, Helen Norman, a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Geraldine Smith; special sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bowman and Alene Pell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, N.C., by the Rev. Dean Eaton. Burial was in Willis Gap Baptist Church cemetery.
CHARLES W. McCOY
Charles William McCoy, 70, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at his residence.
He was born in Radford on July 27, 1946, to the late Lucy Albert McCoy and Jack McCoy.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Corso McCoy of the home; sons Mitchell McCoy, Matthew Shelor and Chris Shelor, all of Radford; sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley Mann and Myrtle Kenley and Allen, all of Radford; brothers-in-law Louis Corso Jr. of Pulaski, and Sam Corso and Diane of Salem; grandchildren Cody McCoy and Mike McCoy; and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service was held Sunday, June 25, in the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Wendall Horton officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, at a later date.

GARY B. QUESINBERRY
Gary B. Quesinberry, age 86, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on August 28, 1930 and was a son of the late Tyler C. Quesinberry and Ethel Branscome Quesinberry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Weddle Quesinberry; one sister, Ilene Q. Hubbard; four brothers, Elman, Arden, Harmon, and Dorn Quesinberry; and a grandson, Russell Quesinberry.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was known as DJ Gary Q for WPAQ and WBRF for many years. He was a singer/songwriter and Virginia Troubadour. He had also been a steel walker and loved trout fishing.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Sue and Russell Oechsel of Houston, Tex., and Elise Suzanne and James Hylton of Stuart; two sons and daughters-in-law, Vance Edward and Ginny Quesinberry of Spokane, Wash., and Roger Wayne and Brenda Quesinberry of Meadows of Dan; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester H. Quesinberry of Blue Ridge and Eric J. Quesinberry of Harrisonburg; a special friend, Christine Elgin of Elamsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Russell Oechsel officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Island Springs Baptist Church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

MICHAEL R. SORADY
Michael Robert Sorady, age 58, of Stuart, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County on Thursday, June 22, 2017.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on February 10, 1959 and was a son of the late John Sorady and Sandra Kravitz Sorady. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nicole Lawrence.
He was a United States Naval veteran. He was a brilliant man with many interests; he was a talented cook, accomplished carpenter, an all around Mr. Fix it, and a scholar. He loved animals and bee keeping, and was working toward his lifelong dream of having his own farm.
Surviving are his wife, Leslie Groves Sorady of the home; six children, Marla Barragan and Maureen Barragan, both of Pasadena, Tex., Edward Barragan of Kingwood, Tex., Amanda Barragan of Stuart, Thomas Gamblin and wife Liz of Denver, Colo., and Richard Gamblin and wife Rose of Kremmling, Colo.; three grandchildren, Nathan Blackwell, Tommy Blackwell, and Elijah Barragan; a sister, Sonja Sorady of North Carolina; two brothers, John Sorady and wife Pauline of Ohio and Tim Sorady and wife Lori of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Tuesday, June 27, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

LEONARD L. WIGGINGTON
Leonard Lee Wiggington, age 73, of Mount Airy, N.C., passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on June 6, 1944 to the late Harold “Shorty” Wiggington and Effie Collins Clifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Terry Clifton; and two grandchildren, T.C. Wall and Bridgette Jenkins.
He attended Gospel Mission Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Martha Ann Hawks Wiggington of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dale Hall of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Lee and Michelle Wiggington of Mount Airy, and Ray and Susan Roberts of Lowgap, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Barbara Wiggington of Collinsville.
A graveside service was held Saturday, June 24, at the Wiggington family cemetery in Stuart with Pastor Kenneth Young officiating.
