KATHRYN “KATHY” REVERE HUDSON WALKER
Kathryn “Kathy” Revere Hudson Walker, age 59, of Stuart, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2018 after a prolonged illness. She was born in Danville on March 16, 1959. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard “Dick” Dunkley Hudson; and special friend, J.L. Cockram. She was a lifelong member of Stuart United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her mother, Kathryn “Kitty” Hale Hudson of Stuart; her brother, Richard “Rick” Hudson, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, first cousin Jane Hudson Richardson of Bridgewater and her ex-husband, Ken Walker of Marrero, La.
Kathy loved animals, especially dogs and horses, and the highlight of this career experience was in veterinary clinics in the New Orleans area. She loved to cook and worked in various restaurants around Patrick County, including Woodbury Inn near Meadows of Dan. Most people will remember her from her many years at Hudson’s Drug Store in Stuart.
Like her father, she enjoyed the people of Patrick County and possessed a respect for the older citizens and what you could learn from them. Kathy held a fondness for bluegrass and mountain music and enjoyed attending the many local music festivals.
She was a creative horticulturist and developed gardens that included plants, flowers and ferns she collected locally in the Blue Ridge. She was an avid reader, possessed a remarkable sense of humor and quick wit, a keen observer of people, a great storyteller and an engaging conversationalist. These qualities in Kathy found expression through her being a strong individual, a free spirit and a creative thinker.
Among her most admirable qualities were her compassion and generosity, caring particularly for those people that she found genuinely in need. Elderly people in the Glenwood Terrace neighborhood often benefitted from her kindness and good home-cooking.
Kathy provided dedicated and conscientious in-home care for both of her parents with the assistance of very dedicated caregivers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The Rev. Jim Churchwell officiated. Burial was in the Stuart Cemetery. The most simple act of kindness- a word spoken, flowers and cards sent, food brought to the home, visits and most of all prayers that were prayed on the behalf of the family of Hubert Marion Goins, were greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of the family and friends that visited before and after his relocation to His Heavenly Home.
Thank you to Moody Funeral Home and staff for the services that they provided for us. Thank you to Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Tony Goins and wife Kim, for their part in the beautiful service of words and songs. Also, thank you for the beautiful military honor service by all who took part.
Most of all, thank you for the wonderful care provided by Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care Team, who made it possible for our loved one to remain in his home and be surrounded by his family at this time. They were always there when we needed them, day or night.
Also, it is appreciated by all for the loving care given by family members.
