MISTY DAWN SIMMONS BLEVINS
Misty Dawn Simmons Blevins, age 30, of Stuart, passed away October 1, 2018. She was born in Patrick County on September 27, 1988. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Buren and Treva Underwood. She attended Abiding Grace Pentecostal Holiness Church and was baptized in August of 2009. She loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. She was full of life and you could always find a smile on her face. Misty will be remembered for the love she had for her children, although being a caretaker came naturally to her, she truly cherished being their mommy.
Surviving are her mother and step father, Regina and Tommy Massey; two children, Kylei Paige Blevins, Michael Gage Blevins; two sisters, Ashley Dalton, Katie Simmons; maternal grandparents, Mike Van Sutphin, Reva Shough; aunts and uncles, Steve and Rachel Van Sutphin, Tammy and John Eames; nieces and nephews, Madilyn Grace, Elijah Eugene, Levi Dwayne, Emmilyn Marie, Karlee Marie; several cousins; and her bestie, Lynn Helton.

CUBERT N. HANDY
Cubert N. Handy, 84, of Woolwine, passed away October 2, 2018, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. He was born March 7, 1934, to the late Reynolds William Handy and Matrice Cockram Handy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kelvin Handy and his sister, Alma Handy Morris.
He was married for 65 years to his lifelong love and companion, Erlene Hubbard Handy. He graduated from Va. Tech in Dairy Science in 1956. He worked for 20 years with Germantown Manufacturing Company in the development and sales of diary stabilizers. Upon his retirement there, he worked alongside his father as owner and operator of Handy’s Orchards in Woolwine.
As an avid VT fan, he enjoyed Hokies sports and attended Hokie football games every season for over 50 years with his family and friends.
Cubert and Erlene spent many years enjoying their shared love of golf, adventure, and travel throughout the country; the last twenty four years they enjoyed their winters together at their home in Florida. Through their journey together, they made many close friends across the country whom they cherish, as well as dear friends here at home.
Cubert and Erlene have two daughters, Brenda Handy Hopkins (Stan) and Carolyn Handy Bell (Tim). They have three grandchildren, John Hopkins Jr. (Merrill), Kelli Bell Sanchez (Robert) and Kory Bell (Ann). They have 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Woolwine United Methodist Church on Friday, October 5, 2018, with Pastor Mary Sue Terry officiating. Burial was in the Woolwine Cemetery.

LONZA COY HATCHER
Lonza Coy Hatcher, age 75 of Stuart, passed away at his home on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born in Patrick County on August 30, 1943, to the late Laton Coy Hatcher and Bera Harbour Hatcher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Loretta Fain. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Airforce and the National Guard. He was a lifelong member of Ross Harbour United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two brothers, James “Jimmy” Lee Hatcher (Lessie), of Martinsville, and Herbert Rodney Hatcher, of Collinsville; three sisters, Barbara Payne Kaufman (Ira) of Bassett, Etta Mae Perry (Pete) of Stuart, and Betty Karen Browne (Fred) of Clawson, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Ross Harbour United Methodist Church with Pastor David Gaylor officiating. Burial will be in the Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart. LINDA MAE HOLT HEPLER
Linda Mae Holt Hepler, age 73, of Patrick Springs, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on December 3, 1944, to the late Raymond Holt and Mary Lawson Holt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Eugene Hepler; a son, Gary Christopher Spencer; and two brothers, David Holt and William “Bill” Holt. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Darlene Spencer Collins (Robert) of Magnolia, Texas; a son, Timothy Gerald Spencer (Michelle) of Welcome, N.C.; five grandchildren, Bryce Collins (Jennifer), Crystalynn Collins, Brooke Vacek (Garrett), Garrett Spencer and Amelia Spencer; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Blakely, Carter, Ella, and Lailynn; five brothers, Doug Holt (Judy) of Washington State, James “Jim” Holt (Linda) of Bakersfield, California, Glen Holt (Helen) of Patrick Springs, Dwight Holt of Stuart and Philip Holt (Debbie) of Bassett; a sister, Rita Holt of Stuart; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Brenda Smith and Tammy Campbell, both of Thomasville, North Carolina; and her beloved dog, Tilley Mae.
A memorial service will be held (today) Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 6 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Winston Puckett officiating. Burial will be private. JAMES “CARSON” HOPKINS
James “Carson” Hopkins, 78, of 1300 Virginia Street in Eden, N.C., passed away Monday evening, October 8, 2018, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
He was born February 8, 1940, in Patrick County, to the late Oscar Lee Hopkins and Lillie Belle Craig Hopkins. He was a retiree of the Virginia Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Norma Hancock Hopkins of the home; daughter, Pam Stafford and husband, Mark of Kernersville; two sons, Kenneth Hopkins and wife, Denise of Patrick Springs, and Mike Hopkins and wife, Debra of Buffalo Ridge; four step-children, Teresa Shorter, Doloras Craddock (Wayne), Tammy Shorter, and Gary Shorter; six grandchildren, Ashley Roberson, Riley Roberson and wife, Christin, Amber Lilly and husband, Zach, Austin Hopkins, Taylor Hopkins and Sydney Hopkins; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Lee Hopkins and Clarence Hopkins; and “sister,” Lucy Hopkins.
The family will receive friends Wednesday (today) evening, 6 – 8 p.m., at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, N.C. and on Thursday, October 11, 2018, 6 – 8 p.m., at Moody’s Funeral Home in Stuart. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Moody’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in New Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Critz. CURTIS PACK
Curtis Pack, age 69 of Westfield, N.C. passed away at Universal Healthcare in King, N.C. on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born in Stokes County to the late Lester Pack and Nannie Holt Pack. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Crissman Pack and a sister-in-law, Hattie Pack.
He is survived by two children, Hilda Tate (Junior) of Mount Airy, N.C., and Gary Pack (Julie) of Westfield, N.C.; five grandchildren, Tyler Tate, Hunter Tate, Greta Pack, Nathan Pack, and Dalton Pack; one great-granddaughter, Brynliegh Tate; five brothers, Robert Pack (Rosie) of Lawsonville, N.C., Clyde Pack (Janie) of Westfield, N.C., Akers Pack of Lawsonville, N.C., Jesse Pack (Pearl) of Lawsonville, N.C., Odell Pack (Patty) of Lawsonville, N.C.; one sister, Ruby Simmons (Ricky) of Danbury, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at 5 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church in Westfield, N.C. with Pastor Andy Pack officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday afternoon and other times at his home.
