FRED L. HELMS
Fred Lee Helms, 75, of Woolwine, died on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at his home.
He was a son of the late Fraze Helms and Emma Cruise Helms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Helms; one sister, Loveda Hylton; three brothers, Ernest Helms, Coy Helms and Glenn Helms; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Helms.
He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and was self-employed for Helms Logging in Woolwine.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille McBride Helms of the home; four sons, Marty Helms and wife Carrie of Woolwine, Mark Helms and wife Jennifer of Woolwine, Mike Helms and wife Christy of Stella, and Ricky Bowman and wife Ashley of Mount Airy, N.C.; one daughter, Vicky Trent of Woolwine; one brother, Claude Helms of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Dorothy Belcher and husband Lois of Meadows of Dan; a brother-in-law, Don Hylton of Meadows of Dan; a sister-in-law, Evona Helms of Meadows of Dan; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, October 11) at Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery in Stuart with Minister Gerald Melton officiating.

JEROLENE C. LaRUE
Jerolene “Jerri” Cassell LaRue, 76, of Bassett, died Saturday, October 7, 2017.
She was born in Patrick County on October 11, 1940 and was a daughter of the late Roy L. Cassell Sr. and the late Alice Morrison Cassell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Howard Garland LaRue; and brothers, Paul Cassell, Pete Cassell, Bob Cassell and Roy Cassell Jr.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett and attended the Kingdom Seekers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her daughters, Patsy L. Roloff and husband Robert S. and Amy L. Donavant and husband Troy C.; special nephew, Tony Frank Cassell; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, John Cassell; sisters, Barbara Blankenship, Maggie Mitchell, and Martha Robertson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and all the many children that were impacted by her loving home.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, October 10, at First Baptist Church of Bassett with Dr. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial was in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.

BETTY O. MARTIN
Betty Overstreet Martin, age 82, of Stuart, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.
She was born in Franklin County on December 6, 1934 to the late John Harrison Overstreet and Nellie Mae Walker Overstreet. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Trooper James Harold Martin; an infant son, John Arthur Martin; seven sisters, Belva O. Barbour, Georgia O. Boothe, Mary O. McCrickard, Ena Pearl O. Poisson, Algie O. Heath, Gladys O. Johnson, and Sarah O. Landsdown; and five brothers, Hampton, Gordon, John, Aaron, and Richard Overstreet.
Betty had 43 years of service as secretary for the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office and was a faithful member of Stuart Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her three children, Frank Martin and wife Ashlie of Pfafftown, N.C., Jennifer Burton and husband Chris of New Orleans, La., and Bobby Martin and Valerie Hocutt of Kernersville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Katherine Martin, Christian Martin, Stuart Martin, Rebecca Milroy, and Alli Jo Martin; a sister, Leona English of Appomattox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, October 11) at Stuart Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Danny Redman officiating. Burial will follow in Snow Creek Memorial Gardens Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

BRAD E. SANBORN
Brad Evans Sanborn, 57, died October 1, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Sanborn.
He leaves three daughters, Samantha and Elizabeth Sanborn and Aubrey Boyko; his mother, Judi Sanborn; sister Tami Jackson; and brother, Scot Sanborn.
He worked as a TSA in Connecticut, Virginia and California. He was kind, generous and will be remembered as a son who never met a stranger.
WILLIAM H. TUCKER
William Herman Tucker, II, 35, of Mount Airy, N.C., passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at his home.
He was born January 8, 1982, in Forsyth County, N.C., the older of two children born to William Herman and Patricia “Shorty” Williams Tucker. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Gladys Carlene Hosey.
He was affectionately known as “Heavy” by his family and many friends. He was formerly employed at Tucker Inc. and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, William Herman and Patricia “Shorty” Williams Tucker of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Tiphanie and Johnny Thomas of Claudville; a niece, Lilee Thomas of Claudville; a nephew, Johnnie Thomas of Claudville; his paternal grandparents, the Rev. Bill and Sharon Tucker of Mount Airy; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a special friend, Dustin Vaughn of Greensboro, N.C.
The funeral service was held Sunday, October 8, at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Tucker, Larry Norman, and Steve Delph officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
