FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13

APPLE BUTTER MAKING: volunteers needed to make apple butter for the Woolwine October Festival, Woolwine Fire Department grounds.

STUART FARMERS’ MARKET OPEN: seasonal vegetables, apples, jams, baked items, meats, eggs and crafts; cooking demonstration by the Reynolds Homestead, 8 a.m. to noon, downtown Stuart.

MUSIC: by Jim Philpott and Friends, 10 a.m. to noon, Rook, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., gym and walking area provided for a fee, for information call (276) 629-1369; HJDB Event Center, 3289 Riverside Dr., Bassett.

MUSIC NIGHT: with Don Smith and the Foggy Mountain Boys and Jason Harris and Friends, admission: $4; concessions available at 5 p.m., open mic at 5:30 p.m., bands to follow, Spencer-Penn Center.

FALL FESTIVAL: free admission, cake walk, basket raffle, bingo, 3-point shoot-out, music and dancing, face painting, baked goods and cotton candy available, games, candy and prizes, hot dog supper, bouncy house, vendor bazaar, inflatables; carnival games and inflatables band is $10; 6 to 9 p.m., Stuart Elementary School.

WOOLWINE OCTOBER FESTIVAL: free admission, music, dancing, crafts for sale (craft vendors are welcome at no charge, call 276-229-8241 for information); apple butter sale, bake sale, hot dogs and ham plates available, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department grounds, Woolwine Hwy., Woolwine.

LORD’S ACRE SALE: crafts and homemade treasures available; auction to feature a handmade quilt and other items from the churches, along with a vehicle donated by Nelson Auto; food available, music by various groups from the participating churches; doors open at 7 a.m., auction at 10 a.m., Rotary Field, Stuart.

FREEDOM FEST: free food, live worship music, powerful testimonies; worship by Limitless, SwiftCreek, Faith Community Church and Compassion Church of Axton; bring a lawn chair, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Faith Community Church, 3836 iron Bridge Rd.

HYMN SINGING: 3 p.m., followed by light dinner, Jacks Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Jacks Creek Road just off Rt. 8 near Woolwine.

BINGO NIGHT: proceeds benefit CCDF Fire and Rescue Squad; prizes from assorted vendors, also prizes for the guys; hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts for sale; $20 for 20 games, additional $10 for cover all and 10 door prize tickets or $5 for cover all and one door prize ticket; doors open at 6 p.m., games begin at 7 p.m., Peters Creek Community Building.

 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15

PANCAKE DAYS: 52nd annual event; sponsored by the Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club and the Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department; all you can eat menu: buckwheat or buttermilk pancakes, gravy, sausage and drink; $10 for adults, $5 for ages 5-12, under five eat free; sausage by the pound also available, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Meadows of Dan Community Building.

THANKSGIVING SERVICE: for the Lord’s Acre Sale, pennies for the Penny House will be collected, 7 p.m., Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church.

HOMECOMING: special music by Dustin Pyrtle (from Doyle Lawson’s band) and friends at 10 a.m., guest speaker: Rev. Robert Phaup at 11 a.m., dinner in the fellowship hall to follow the service, Minnie’s Chapel Wesleyan Church.

 

MONDAY, OCTOBER 16
