Olene Massey Nester, 84, of Laurel Fork, VA passed away at her home on Thursday, February 6, 2020.  She was born in Elkin, NC on October 22, 1935, to the late Jesse and Pearl Alderman Massey and her second husband Dexter Burnette.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Eugene Nester, brothers, Eugene Massey, Calvin Willard, Reed Willard; and a granddaughter, Tonya Taylor.

Devoted to her family, Olene leaves behind special memories of the family farm, camping, home cooking, and trips to the beach.  She was recognized upon her retirement as a 40-year employee of JPS Elastomerics Corporation in Westfield, NC for her loyal and faithful service.  Although retired, she maintained her love for mountain produce, spending harvest seasons at the “market” with family and keeping tabs on friends at Pete’s Place in Vesta, VA.

She is survived by her daughters, Elisha Kay Marshall, Sandra Phillips, Cheryl Coleman and son-in-law Butch Coleman; her son, Gary Nester and daughter-in-law Connie Nester, all of Laurel Fork, VA.  She leaves behind her beloved companion and Grand-dog “crappy.” As well as several care-givers who supported her in preparation for her eternal journey.  She was a member of Green Mountain Baptist Church and a regular viewer of Dr. Charles Stanley.

Also, surviving are her brother, David Massey and sister-in-law Lou Massey of Bassett, VA; one sister, Iola Massey Hubbard and brother-in-law Melvin Pete Hubbard of Meadows of Dan, VA.  Olene leaves behind 11 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on February 9, 2020, at 2:00 PM at the Plaster’s Family Cemetery in Vesta, VA with Zeb Hicks officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Olene’s memory be made to Twin County Hospice Care, 963 E. Stuart Dr. #2, Galax, VA  24333.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
