Time to don hair the nets: the annual Pack the Shack for Feed the Funnel kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Rotary Building.

Organizer Jane Cardwell said any and all volunteers are welcome and encouraged to pitch in and help pack 28,000 meals for Patrick County residents who need food – no experience is necessary.

Set up is from 10 to 11; meal assembly begins at 11. Costing only 25 cents each, the meals will be distributed by area churches and food pantries, including Disaster Relief Food Ministry and the Patrick County Food Bank.

The Stuart United Methodist Church youth group raised $7,000 to cover the food cost for this year’s Feed the Funnel through this winter’s Pancake Days event; offering meals the first Sunday of each month; and selling Christmas trees, cards and calendars.

Cardwell said the group is accepting donations toward next year’s event.
