Patrick County Girl Scouts held their annual Girl Scout Camporee at Dominion Valley Park April 20-21. This year only Girl Scout Troop #1302 was able to be there but it was a great time for all those who were able to attend.

The girls enjoyed Friday night cooking hot dogs over the campfire, playing on the playground, working on scrapbooks, making samores over the campfire and snuggling down in their sleeping bags to stay warm on a cold night of camping.

Saturday brought the sunshine and a warm fun day. The day began with breakfast and a little play time. Then a flag ceremony started the day’s activities.

Next came time learning about outdoor cooking on many different types of fires and ovens led by Donna Hubbard and some of her girl scouts from troop #505 in Martinsville. The girls offer many thanks to Hubbard for the information and the delicious tastes of the foods that were prepared in many different ways.

Next came craft time and painting birdhouses. Each scout had this creatively painted creation to take home as a memory of the fun time. Finally it was lunch time.

Lunch was followed up by a memory game using lots of useful Girl Scout items. This was followed up by a scavenger hunt throughout the park.

The day ended as camp was cleaned up and all packed up and memories had been made.  Plans are already talked about for another great time next year at another memorable camporee.
