Patrick deputy’s pursuit results in fugitive arrest

A Patrick County Sheriff’s Office pursuit Saturday night resulted in the arrest of a fugitive wanted by the Wythe County Sherriff’s Office on a malicious wounding charge. According to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith, patrol was increased in the Ararat area after multiple sources reported possible criminal activity.
Deputy Lewis Carroll got into a pursuit Saturday night with the fugitive’s gold Ford Ranger pickup, which had been reported as one of the vehicles involved in suspicious behavior. The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour and crossed into North Carolina.
The driver, Randall Scott Rhudy, 36, of Ivanhoe, was arrested and identified as a fugitive wanted by the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office on a malicious wounding charge. Rhudy is being held in the Surry County, N.C., Jail under a $20,000 bond awaiting extradition.
In a second incident, Deputy Dan Gray arrested Dane Gray, 47, of Cana, after a traffic stop. Gray had 12 outstanding drug distribution warrants from Surry County. Gray is being held without bail in the Patrick County Jail on a fugitive warrant.
In other sheriff’s office activity, Sheriff Dan Smith reported the following arrests:
• Jay Devin Griffith, 23, of Bassett, was arrested Oct. 3 on surety capias/bail release.
Deputy S.R. Keffer made the arrest.
• Douglas Bryan Butski, 22, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 3 on misdemeanor assault on a family member.
Sergeant R.D. Bowling made the arrest.
• James Richard Beasley II, 37, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 4 on misdemeanor assault and battery.
Deputy Lewis Carroll Jr. made the arrest.
• Mark Wesley Greene, 37, of Gibsonville, N.C., was arrested Oct. 5 for probation violation.
Sergeant L.E. Cassady made the arrest.
• Summer Nicole Collins, 29, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 5 for felony probation violation.
Sergeant L.E. Cassady made the arrest.
• Tina Davis Greer, 49, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 6 for misdemeanor failure to appear for a misdemeanor charge.
Deputy M.T. Rorrer made the arrest.
• Devin Ray Marshall, 23, of Ararat, was arrested Oct. 6 for felony statutory burglary and felony larceny of a firearm.
Deputies Dustin Foley and Jesse Pickerel made the arrest.
• Walter Elbert Spence III, 41, of Critz, was arrested Oct. 6 for misdemeanor brandishing a firearm, misdemeanor assault and battery, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor destruction/damage/vandalism less than $1,000.
Deputies Bryant Pruitt and Dustin Foley made the arrest.
• Kenneth Ray Lockhart, 39, of Patrick Springs, was arrested Oct. 6 for felony disregarding law enforcement command: to stop.
Deputy Jesse Pickerel made the arrest.
• Nathan Bernard Frazier, 40, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 6 for felony warrant of extradition.
Investigator Terry Mikels made the arrest.
• Ronald W. Barker, 68, of Stuart, was arrested Oct. 6 for misdemeanor assault on a family member.
State Trooper J.M. Hylton made the arrest.
