Two Patrick County students received ribbons at the 2017 Virginia School Boards Association Blue Ridge Regional Art Contest on March 6.

Christa Ubando, a third-grader at Patrick Springs Primary, was awarded second place for her piece titled “Circus Elephant.” Ashton Young, an 11th-grader at Patrick County High School, also received a second-place ribbon for her piece “Eternal Brick.”

Middle-school artist Eimile Frazier’s “Through the Flames and Into the Sky” was the third piece selected for contest admission.  Each school division was asked to submit three entries.

The VSBA Regional Art Contest was started in 1989 to promote the artistic talents of Virginia’s public school students. For each of the nine VSBA regions, a winner is chosen for the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

The winning art is framed and displayed in the VSBA’s Charlottesville offices, and the Richmond offices of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
