Jake Howe (middle) commits to further his wrestling career at Averett University in Danville. He is flanked by his parents Joe Howe and Christy Ferguson. Patrick County High School senior Jake Howe committed himself to a bright future of wrestling for Averett University in the upcoming fall season.

Accompanied by his coaches and parents, the ceremony took place at Patrick County High School on May 16.

“I wouldn’t have had the opportunity, period, without Coach (Robert) Cunningham and Coach (Stephen) Biedrycki,” Howe said, attributing some of his success to the wisdom of his wrestling coaches.

“They pushed me to the limits throughout the seasons,” he said.

When asked if he had any summer goals prior to his new college wrestling career Howe said, “I really just want to gain strength, be the best wrestler I can be so I don’t let down my new coaches at Averett.”

While attending Averett University in Danville, Howe plans to major in Aviation. Taking both academic and mechanical classes, his long term goal is to achieve success as an aircraft pilot.
