Statements for year 2016 personal property taxes will be mailed to Patrick County taxpayers on Sept. 21, according to a news release from Treasurer Sandra Stone.
Each taxpayer should receive a statement for any personal property such as cars, trucks, mobile homes, business equipment, machinery and tools registered on your tax record as of Jan. 1, 2016.
If you do not receive your tax statement, please contact the Patrick County Treasurer’s Office at 276-694-7257. Failure to receive a statement does not relieve one from the penalty and interest added after the due date. Please mail or bring the bottom portion of the statement with you when paying your taxes.
Also, Stone reminds taxpayers, the second installment of the year 2016 real estate tax is due Dec. 5, 2016. The real estate statements were mailed around the end of April with two payment stubs. The first payment was due June 6 and the second statement is due Dec. 5.
Payments received will be applied to the oldest tax owed (Virginia Code Section 58.1-3913).
If your real estate statement has been misplayed and you do not know the amount due in December, please contact the treasurer’s office. An insert was placed in with the personal property statements to remind taxpayers to pay the second installment of real estate taxes.
Office hours for the treasurer’s office are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. The office is located on the second floor of the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Building (county administration building) in Stuart.
The treasurer’s office will be closed for the following holidays: Monday, Oct. 10, Columbus Day; Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans’ Day; Wednesday, Nov. 23, closing at noon and remaining closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, Thanksgiving holidays.
