A partnership was created to help raise money for Patrick Henry Community College campus food bank.

The PHCC Bookstore is partnering with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Hunger Project to

raise funds by accepting customer donations at the register.

The Follett Higher Education Group will match donations up to $1,000 in the drive that is going on now and through Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While buying books or supplies this semester, students may ‘round up’ their change or provide a donation of any amount to help their fellow students. Those not purchasing books or supplies – such as college staff or community members –also are invited to donate during the dollar-for-dollar match period.

Customers who wish to donate may stop by the bookstore, located in the Walker Building on the college campus.

At PHCC, the college food bank is called the Patriot Pantry, and it is located in the Learning Resource Center. Since PHCC began the Patriot Pantry in 2017, it has helped approximately 75 students every semester. The pantry offers both nonperishable food items and household necessities like shampoo and soap.

The PHCC Bookstore and 18 other VCCS campus stores are accepting donations in-store, with Follett to match the donations dollar for dollar, up to $19,000, or a total of $1,000 per institution.

For more information, drop by the PHCC Bookstore or call the Store Manager Markus Seaton at 276-656-0319.
