The funeral for Patrick Henry Community College’s Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team was held on Monday, but the loss of his talent will be long term at PHCC.

Kenneth “Kenny” David Wade, 45, of Rocky Mount, died in a single vehicle crash on Wednesday, Sept. 5, according to the Virginia State Police.

“Our hearts are heavy. We lost a great man and an excellent coach…. Coach Wade led the men’s basketball team since its beginning. We love him and will miss him very much,” Patrick Henry C.C. Athletics said in a social media post.

The crash occurred Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 11:20 p.m. on Briarpatch Lane, two miles west of Virginia 724 in Franklin County, according to a release.

Then, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling on Briarpatch Lane when the vehicle had a mechanical failure which caused the vehicle to run off the right side of the roadway and overturn, the release stated.

Wade was attempting to exit the unstable vehicle after the crash, and was trapped when the vehicle shifted.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper G. Goad.
