The Alliance for Excellence student organization at Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) held its 21st annual Academic Awards Program honoring 37 minority students for exemplary academic performance and community service.

During the event, the executive director of the Community College Ministries, Steve Darr, presented a $10,000 donation to the Alliance for Excellence program at PHCC.

The organization’s board expects that the gift will have a significant impact on the organization and will provide many new opportunities for its members. Jean Wilson, coordinator of Alliance for Excellence who was honored for 25 years of service during the ceremony, shared, “We will be able to put that money to good use.”

The Alliance for Excellence is a partnership of Southern and Central Virginia churches and colleges that develops and supports educational opportunities for local minorities.
