Patrick Henry Community College is offering a gamut of new short-term classes for those seeking to discover a new hobby or further cultivate skills.
This fall, PHCC is adding three new courses on mindfulness—a technique for managing stress and increasing awareness, concentration, and appreciation. Each four-week course meets on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and costs $45.
The classes are: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, September 6-27.; Introduction to Mindfulness, October 4-25.; and Mindfulness 2.0, November 1-22.
PHCC’s beloved floral design class is back this October. Learn basic floral arranging techniques with fresh and silk flowers. This eight-week course for beginners and intermediate designers meets on Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and costs $75 plus a $50 supply fee payable to the instructor. Creative Designs in Floral meets October 4-November 15
Cultural story telling classes offer participants an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Native American and African-American societies. These four-week courses meet on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon and cost $45.
These classes are Cultural Storytelling: African-American Storytelling, October 5-26, and Cultural Storytelling: Native American Storytelling, October 5-26.
PHCC is launching new courses in the photography and Photoshop series. These three-week classes meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and cost $45.
Classes offered are Action Photography, September 13-27, Portrait Photography, October 4-18, and Photo Editing, November 1-22.
As part of the Global Cuisine series, which meets on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., PHCC is adding Cake Decorating with Colleen Butker. This class lasts two weeks and costs $50. Cake Decorating will meet November 3-10.
