The Stokes County Arts Council will feature Belinda Eldridge’s photography exhibit at the Hanging Rock State Park Gallery (Hanging Rock Visitor’s Center) in Danbury, N.C., July through August.
Eldridge will be at the gallery from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 6 for a Meet and Greet social.
The public is invited.
In a prepared statement, Eldridge said she is based in Stokes County.
She attended school to study portrait photography, but chose to study commercial photography for the experience,” and truly enjoyed it. “Today I am a portrait, events, children, and fine art photographer. My passion is to capture the heart of the moment and to create emotion-evoking images. I also like to play around with new and creative ideas. I have found that photographing children is my niche because children are not afraid to express themselves, which enables me to capture effortless and indelible moments,” she said.
The youngest of nine children from her native Weimar, Texas, Eldridge said “There are not a lot of pictures of my family, and I do not know what I looked like under the age of ten. I treasure the few pictures I have, my favorite of which is a photograph of my family standing on the front porch of our old farmhouse.”
She didn’t discover her love of photography until her late 30s “when I started taking pictures at my church with a Minolta point and shoot camera. I fell in love with documenting events. These days I shoot with a Canon digital. Someday I would like to have my own darkroom. There is nothing like seeing your images as they come to life,” Eldridge said.
“When I am not behind a camera, I enjoy spending time with my children and grandchildren, developing alternative avenues to display my love of creativity, gardening, learning to cook healthy meals, and learning to live a more self-sufficient lifestyle,” she said, and added “I am also passionate about random acts of kindness and enjoy using my art to contribute to organizations and causes that I support.”
