The Patrick County Board of Supervisors wishes to remind pet owners that the law requires all dogs kept on their premises that are four months of age or older must be vaccinated for rabies.

Owners must also purchase a 2017 dog license.

Owners must preserve the certificate of vaccination for presentation should the license be checked by an officer.

Starting February 1, the Animal Control Officer will conduct a check to ensure compliance with the law. County officials recommend that any person who has not purchased 2017 dog licenses do so before February 1 to avoid being summoned to court and subjected to the penalties of law.

Dog licenses may be purchased at the Patrick County Treasurer’s Office, located on the second floor of the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Building. The purchaser must present a current and unexpired certificate of vaccination against rabies.

Three-year licenses may be purchased with an appropriate certificate of vaccination.

The annual license tax is $10 for a one-year tag for an unneutered or unspayed dog; $30 for a three-year tag. The tax for a neutered or spayed dog is $3 for one-year tag and $9 for three-year tag.
For more information, please call the treasurer’s office at (276) 694-7257.

All cats are required to be vaccinated for rabies; however, purchasing a license is not required. All pet owners are urged by county officials to comply with the aforementioned regulations.
