The Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League (BRAWL) will hold its first Rabies Vaccination Day from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at Rotary Field in Stuart.
Vice President Lynn Chipkin said the non-profit organization decided to hold the event due to the danger to pets and because there’s no low-cost rabies vaccination in the area.
“Rabies is essentially a death sentence for animals,” she said.
The cost is $10 for cats and dogs. A three-year booster is available for $12 with proof of current vaccination. There is a limit of five pets per household.
Chipkin said the veterinarian can do up to 50 vaccinations at the event.
“It’s first-come come-first first-served,” she said, adding that vaccinations cannot be reserved.
The veterinarian will go to the vehicles to administer the vaccines. Participants will remain with their pets in their vehicles, Chipkin said.
To be eligible to participate, residency proof is required, she said, adding a driver’s license or a piece of mail would be acceptable.
BRAWL may plan to hold another clinic in the future, and also plans to hold another spay/neuter shuttle for cats and dogs in the coming months.
