The Racing College of Virginia at Patrick Henry Community College is opening its doors on October 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. to anyone who wants to get out of the stands and into the racing industry.
Race fans can see the college’s state-of-the-art training facility and equipment, meet the faculty, and talk with an Old Dominion University representative about transfer opportunities to a four-year motorsports program.
PHCC alumna Jessica Jacobs said, “PHCC’s motorsports program was perfect for me, because I got to learn by getting my hands dirty. I didn’t want to go to college. The idea of sitting in a classroom was not appealing. Because I discovered the motorsports program at PHCC, I now have my associate’s degree and am going on to get my bachelor’s.”
The motorsports program provides hands-on education with high performance racing engines and chassis fabrication, giving students the chance to build and analyze race cars like crews in the NASCAR circuit.
Students have the opportunity to get on-track experience as the pit crew to the #73 PHCC Racing College team car which recently raced on Martinsville Speedway during the Valley Star 300. Many graduates have gone on to work in the NASCAR circuit.
Jeff Fields, dean of professional technologies and health sciences, said, “With our experienced instructors, top-line equipment such as the Chassis Dyno and pulldown rig, and the opportunity to join a competitive pit crew, we’ve created an ideal, fast-paced learning environment in a competition-level race shop.”
The Racing College building is located behind Arrington Performance on 67 Motorsports Drive in Martinsville. For more information, visit www.racingcollege.com.
