The Red Bank Ruritan Club met on February 7 for its monthly meeting at the Community Building in Claudville.
The meeting was led by 2017 club president, Roger Gammons. The meeting included a delicious covered dish meal prepared by the membership. Other officers for 2017 are Rachel White, vice president; Charlie Bowman, secretary; and Connie Bishop, treasurer.
All meetings begin with prayer and singing of the song, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Meetings are concluded with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Recent accomplishments include the delivery of rock dust donated by Ararat Rock for the baseball field infield. The club also has new gravel in the front parking area put down by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The club took in one new member at the meeting.
Future plans for the club include:
1. Building a new web site; the club already has a Facebook page.
2. Developing a reserve fund to replace the heating and air conditioning system.
3. Completing the paperwork to have non-profit 501c3 status restored and becoming incorporated.
4. Improvements in the Ruritan sign in front of the building
5. A new incentive program to encourage members to recruit new members.
6. Planning for the chocolate Easter egg sales for the Easter season
7. Selling raffle tickets at $1 each to support the annual banquet for the Dan River District Ruritans. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500 and third prize is $200.
The calendar for the year includes: hosting a Ruritan Zone meeting at Claudville with participation from the Ararat, Meadows of Dan, Claudville and Patrick Springs clubs on February 21 at 7 p.m.; fund-raising projects; selling chocolate Easter eggs beginning in mid-March; the Kibler Valley River Run on the last Saturday in July; and selling Polish sausage at the Mount Airy Autumn Leaves Festival in October.
