The remains of two people found following a residential fire have been positively identified, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.

The two were positively identified as Ronnie Glenn Terry, 56, and Carol Ann Terry, 56, both of 1249 Dan Valley Farm Road in Claudville.

Deputies responded to that home on December 5, 2018 in reference to shots being fired call.  Upon arrival, deputies found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Smith said the investigation revealed that Ronnie Terry had contacted a family member before law enforcement was notified and told them that he shot his wife, and that he was going to set the house on fire and kill himself.

Smith indicated that evidence subsequently found in the burnt debris corroborated the information obtained from the family member.

The state medical examiner’s office compared DNA samples from family members to the remains to make a positive identification.

DNA analysis is time consuming, Smith said, and often takes months to complete.

The medical examiner’s office has ruled the deaths as a homicide/suicide.
