Former Gov. Gerald Baliles will be the keynote speaker at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new bookmobile on Thursday, May 16 at 12:30 p.m.

The name of the new bookmobile also will be unveiled at the ceremony that will be held in front of the Patrick County Library in Stuart. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

When preparing for the ceremony, library staff happened on old photographs of the agency’s bookmobile service.

One photo in particular is a mystery that library officials are seeking to solve.

“We think the photo is dated 1945 or 1946, when the bookmobile service first started in Patrick County,” said Garry Clifton, branch manager of the library in Stuart. He added the library has provided bookmobile service since 1946.

Five youngsters are pictured standing in front of the bookmobile, and Clifton said he hopes “readers may be able to identify those in the picture.”

If you recognize any of those pictured in the photo, call Clifton at (276) 694-3352.
