The Patrick County High School cross country team competed in the 44th annual Metro Cross Country championships at Blacksburg High School on October 18. The runners benefitted from ideal conditions on the sunny day with a slight breeze.
The boys’ team finished 11th in a field of 25 teams. Monroe Morse, the top Cougar runner, finished ini 28th place in 18:06. Other team members’ times were Zach Montgomery, 48th place, 18:29; Jared Biedrycki, 75th, 19:08; Kristian Reynolds, 52nd, 18:35; Brandon Rohrbach, 162nd, 21:21; and Tristian Moore, 168th, 21:31.
The girls’ team was non-scoring, with only four girls running. Macie Rogers placed 23rd in 21:52; Arielle Taylor finished 53rd in 22:46.
Armonte Carter was close behind in 58th place in 23:05, and Ashton Collins was 79th in 23:50.
“Overall, they raced competitively in a very large field,” said Coach Lynne Deckel. “The boys started off in a great position from the gun which is something we have been working on. The girls continued to show grittiness despite being next to larger teams.
“We just have to keep the competitive edge up for the big meets of the season. We are at that point in the season where it all needs to come together. I still believe what I said back in the beginning of the season. If we keep working, we can see some big performances in the biggest meets of the year.”
