Samuel “Sam” Linward Simmons

Mr. Samuel “Sam” Linward Simmons, age 90 of Patrick Springs, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home. He was born in Patrick County on June 1, 1932, to the late Joel Tom Simmons and Cassie Shelton Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Betty Jean Simmons; a daughter, Debbie S. Mills; brothers and sisters-in-law, James T. “Babe” and Mary Simmons, Richard and Lois Simmons, Bill Simmons, Charles Simmons, Wayne Simmons; one sister and brother-in-law, Nannie Ruth and Bud White; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Bryant. Sam served in the US. Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of Old Well Christian Church and had retired after 35 years of service as an ABC Agent serving in Patrick and surrounding counties. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed gardening, and loved being in the outdoors.

Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Plaster Simmons of the home; sisters-in-law, Betty Lou (John) Clark of Stuart, Louise Simmons of Woolwine; Gay Bryant of Henry; brothers-in-law, Mike (Darlene) Plaster of Chase City, Connie (Connie) Plaster of Critz; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Laura Plaster officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 6, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 240 Commonwealth Blvd. West, Unit 602B, Martinsville, VA 24112.  The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home for the outstanding care given to Sam. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
