Surry Community College is assisting businesses across Surry and Yadkin counties by helping to bolster their workforce through NC Edge, a statewide customized training initiative designed to upskill, reskill, and retain top talent with tailored training solutions.
NC Edge’s mission is to fuel success through workforce training, equipping employees with the skills they need to perform, innovate, and grow – strengthening North Carolina’s economy in the process.
Through Surry Community College, businesses can access a streamlined training process that begins with consultation and assessment, followed by building customized training plans centered around workforce needs and implementation. Training can be held on-site, online, at one of SCC’s facilities, or through the college’s partners.
NC Edge training opportunities are available to qualifying organizations in industries such as manufacturing, information technology, life sciences, distribution, and customer support centers. Eligible companies must meet two or more of the following criteria – make an appreciable capital investment; deploy new technology; create new jobs; expand an existing workforce or enhance the productivity and profitability of operations within North Carolina; and enhance the skills of workers.
While training topics are customizable to what a company needs, popular offerings include safety, leadership, and technical certifications, as well as continuous improvement training.
During the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year, NC Edge at SCC was able to assist 17 companies and held 51 classes, with a total of 841 employees trained. Several local employers have been able to benefit from the customizable trainings, including companies such as Vitro, B&G Foods, Lydech Thermal Acoustical Solutions, Weyerhaeuser, and Starrett, among others.
As part of the North Carolina Community College System, NC Edge supports North Carolina’s workforce through industry-driven training that supports economic growth and creates opportunities for employees and local businesses.
