Surry Community College Developmental Psychology students welcomed special guest, Camden and his mother Meghan Roberson of Ararat on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
“The college students are studying a variety of topics related to Down syndrome and childhood cancer,” said SCC psychology instructor Heather Willard. “A portion of our coursework includes learning about chromosomes and chromosomal abnormalities. Developmental psychology is a course that is taken by a large number of students wanting to go into the medical field. We are grateful to Camden and Meghan for visiting us and discussing their experiences with Downs.”
Developmental psychology is a study of human growth and development. In the course, emphasis is placed on major theories and perspectives as they relate to the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects of development from conception to death. Upon completion, students are able to demonstrate knowledge of development across the life span.
Registration for summer and fall classes at Surry Community College begins April 8 for new curriculum students. The college is offering a Spring Open House Series for prospective students with chances to win scholarship money. Go to www.surry.eduto learn more.
