Cub Scout Pack 69 is teaming up with Boy Scout Troop 69 to host a flag retirement ceremony at the Patrick Springs Park, Ball Park Road, Patrick Springs on Friday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited.
The scouts want to show people why the flag should be seen as such an important and powerful symbol.
The Scouts are still gathering flags and don’t how many they will have, but they hope that people will bring their own flags that are in need of retirement. The process to properly retire the American flag is found in the Flag Code, which outlines the many rules on how to treat the flag.
The official flag retirement ceremony is free to attend, but donations will be accepted.
The public is encouraged to donate flags in need of retirement that are too faded or frayed to be flown any longer. They may be dropped off at Elizabeth’s Pizza in Patrick Springs; John Adams Grocery in Sanville, the Patrick County Soil and Water Conservation District office in the USDA Service Center behind Stuart Baptist Church; or to any scout, scout parent or leader.
