The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen Senior Team members recently traveled to Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, Virginia, to take part in the 2020 Virginia 4-H State Shoot.
More than nine 4-H shooting clubs from around the state attended, with more than 104 youth competing in 8 different events, and 11 teams competing.
Competing for the Patrick County 4-H Marksmen included Lauren Murphy and Caleb Murphy, both senior members of the Marksmen team.
Individual results include:
22 Rifle Individual (Sr) – Caleb Murphy, 1st place, Lauren Murphy, 2nd place
Instinctive Archery Individual (Sr) – Caleb Murphy, 3rd place
Muzzle Loader Individual (Sr) –Lauren Murphy, 1st place, Caleb Murphy, 2nd place

The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen use shooting as a vehicle to teach youth ages 9-19 life skills such as responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork through skills learned in archery, muzzleloading, pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Through these disciplines, youth also learn firearm safety and marksmanship.

The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen concluded their 4-H year on September 30.
