Mr. Sherman Eugene Thomas, age 81 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at his home on Saturday, August 5, 2023. He was born in Henry County on October 8, 1941, to the late John Marshall Thomas and Mary Louise Kitzmiller Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Anna Caroline Clark; and two sisters, June Thomas, and Betty Ann Bowman. Sheman was a member of T.R.A.S.H. Ministry. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army. Sherman was a retired long distance and local truck driver. He loved riding his Harley, especially to Myrtle Beach and was a former member of Henry County Bassmasters. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, driving boats and motorcycles too fast to scare his passengers, making memories with family and friends, and how much he loved his family; being Papa Sherman to his grandchildren was his greatest joy.

Left to cherish the memory of Sherman Thomas are his devoted wife, Betty Joe Roberson Thomas of the home; one daughter, Sandra T. Clark (Lee) of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Cary-Grace James (Josh) and Andrew Perry Clark ( Allison), all of Roanoke; one great-grandson, Miles James; six siblings, John Thomas of Arizona, James Thomas of Bassett, Lewis Thomas of Collinsville, Karen Orr of Martinsville, Tony Thomas of Martinsville, and Bonnie Bowman of Collinsville; one half-sister, Fran Hofhiens of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on what would have been Sherman and Betty’s 62nd wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home Saturday morning. Online condolences may be made by visiting www. moodyfuneralservices.com.
