Mrs. Shirley Nowlin Redd, age 79 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at her home. She was born in Patrick County on March 12, 1940, to the late Samuel Thomas Nowlin and Mable Redd Nowlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Redd; one daughter, Pamela Carlton; and two brothers, Sam Thomas Nowlin, Jr., and James Donald Nowlin. Shirley had been a Registered Nurse with R.J. Reynolds Memorial Hospital and the Blue Ridge Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the Church Clerk, sang in the choir, and was an usher. She loved gardening, her flowers, and going to yard sales.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Sophia Redd of Stuart; three granddaughters, Shounita Carlton and fiancé, Doug Watkins, Tarongular Yellock, Candace Manns and husband, Kenneth; seven great-grandchildren, Kyonna Dandridge, Nakiyah Redd, Tycarius Yellock, Pamela Watkins, Jymasia Manns, Landon Manns, Daniyah Watkins; three sisters, Margaret Dodson, Nancy Covington, Carmen Nowlin all of Patrick Springs; two sisters-in-law, Margie Nowlin of Patrick Springs, Judy Nowlin of Mt. Vernon, NY; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Velma Tyson of Spring Valley, NY.
Funeral services were held on August 31, 2019, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Douglas Scales officiating. Burial was in the Nowlin Family Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
