Brandon Simmons was re-elected to serve as chairman of the Patrick County School Board at the board’s reorganizational meeting Thursday. Simmons served in the same capacity in 2019.
Walter Scott was selected to serve a first term as vice-chairman for the upcoming year.
In other matters, the board:
*Appointed Sara Leigh Collins as its clerk; Dean Gilbert, superintendent, was appointed deputy clerk.
* Formed a budget committee. Simmons said that with a majority of new members, he feels “we should meet as a full board” to work on the budget.
* Approved a personnel report as amended following a closed session meeting.
* Gilbert advised the board that the Virginia School Principals Appreciation Week is now through Jan. 25.
* Amy Walker, of the Mayo River District, attended a training session for new school board members in Richmond. The state budget and other issues also were discussed.
* Approved a consent calendar.
* Reaffirmed and adopted the Virginia School Board Association’s (VSBA’s) School Board Code of Conduct and reaffirmed following Roberts Rules of Order at meetings in the upcoming year.
