Softball team has loss, win

The JV Lady Cougars lost a close 6-4 game to a strong Staunton River team at home on Monday, May 2. The Cougars battled back late but came up short as a result of too many strikeouts at the plate. Hayden Lawless gave up 2 earned runs, scattered 6 hits, and walked 2 through 4 innings in the circle.  Kylee Joyce gave up 2 earned runs, struck out one, and walked 2. 

Journey Moore threw the final 2 innings, striking out 2 and walking 3. Moore had a double RBI, 2 walks, and scored 2 runs. Lilly Hazelwood had a double, an RBI, and 1 run scored. Aniya Penn had 1 hit, a run scored, and a sacrifice.

Bryley Pike, Kyleigh Gusler, and Lawless also had hits. 

Patrick County hosted Magna Vista Thursday, May 5, winning 15-0 in 4 innings. 

Lawless threw a perfect 4 innings facing the minimum 12 hitters, giving up no hits or walks. Defense made no errors behind her. Pike was 4-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Lawless was 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Moore was 3-4 with 3 triples. Gusler got a big solo home run to center field. Cheyenne Wood had 2 hits, including an inside the park home run. Joyce, Jayden Callahan, Eliza Clifton, and Lexi Cutchins added hits.  

The Lady Cougars are 13-3 so far this season.
